Mock interview reflection
As part of our Academic and Professional Development course, we participated and conducted mock interviews between students. Group of 3 students were interviewing another one that would then switch with the others and so forth.
This have been an enriching experience, despite the fact that I already have participated to numerous job interviews, it was in France and even if part of the interview was done in english, this was the first time I have been interviewed in english only. It is always useful to test the ability to convince and to make a good impression in a different context. This exercise helped me to improve my communication skills, and quick reactions to identified questions that appear to be popular in job interviews. The feedbacks from both the tutor and other classmates helped my identify what were the positive and negative points, and how to work to improve my body language and my ability to be persuasive. However, I was aware that these interviews were informal and therefore, I did not have to deal with a lot of pressure, I knew the classmates that were interviewing me and it was not the same as in a real professional setting. I believe this type of exercise is very important, and I like to compare it with sports training when technique is trained again and again until you reach perfect form, practising interviews is very helpful to be very confident and well-prepared to every situations in future job interviews. |
